Party secretary devoted to lifting village out of poverty

Huang Jingjiao, Party secretary of Diping village of Lalie town, Du'an Yao autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, died in a car accident on Dec 26, while traveling from visiting several impoverished families.

In March 2016, Huang was sent to the village from Du'an Supply and Marketing Cooperatives. He had devoted himself to lifting the village out of poverty since then.

Under the leadership of Huang, various industries have been developed in Diping village. A total of 1,097 mu (73.13 hectares) of walnuts have been planted in the village so far.

In 2018, a specialized breeding cooperative was established in the village, while the village-level cattle farm was put into operation in 2019. Planting grapes and dry lotus roots are also of great popularity in the village.

As a result, there are currently only 21 impoverished people in six households in the village, and the poverty incidence has dropped to 2.47 percent.

In addition, Huang paid great attention to maintaining simple and unsophisticated traditions.

Over the past few hundreds of years, villagers believed that only high-profile weddings and funerals were decent. However, they now approve of simplifying the processes and scales due to Huang's persuasion.

"Secretary Huang was a good public servant, as well as a good son of Diping village," said Pan Xuxi, chairman of the People's Congress of Lalie town.
