Taiyuan city, the capital of Shanxi province, got the green light to become one of 24 cities establishing cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot areas by the State Council, China's Cabinet, on Dec 24.

The newly established China (Taiyuan) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Area was recognized, local officials said.

They said it will replicate and promote the experience and practices of the previously recognized cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot areas.

It will enact policies such as value-added tax and consumption tax exemption for cross-border e-commerce retail exports, as well as carry out innovation and brand building, promote industrial transformation and upgrading and advance free, convenient and new international trade.

In recent years, Taiyuan has followed the trend in globalization, officials said.

It has taken the development of cross-border e-commerce as an important measure to promote the stability and quality of the city's foreign trade.

This has opened a new path for the transformation and upgrading of many foreign trade companies and e-commerce companies in the city.

Taiyuan will next increase its cross-border e-commerce policy support, further improve the policy system, to guide the cluster development of local cross-border e-commerce.
