Shaanxi province in northwest China is arguably its most diverse and inclusive place. It has Gobi deserts but also produces one out of every seven apples in the world. Its terracotta warriors are as famous as its technological support in Chinese projects such as the Shenzhou spacecraft, the Chang'e lunar exploration and the deep-sea submersible Jiaolong.
