The capital city of South China's Guangdong province is sparing no effort to speed up the development of advanced manufacturing industry, with an aim to build the metropolis into a new innovation center and a production base of advanced manufacturing industry in the country.
According to the Three-Year Action Plan to Build Guangzhou into a Major City of Advanced Manufacturing Industry (2019-21), the city's advanced manufacturing industrial added value is planned to reach more than 300 billion yuan ($42.86 billion) by 2021, playing an important role in the economic construction of Guangdong province, window of China's reform and opening up.
"The southern metropolis relies much on the development of science and technology to achieve its sustainable economic growth in the following years," said the action plan recently passed by Guangzhou city government's administrative conference.
To this end, the city government will give top priorities to the construction of two world-class advanced manufacturing industrial clusters and another four national advanced manufacturing industrial clusters in the following months.
The world-class advanced manufacturing clusters will focus on developing the industries of automobile, ultra-high-definition video and new types of displays while the national advanced manufacturing industry clusters will mainly develop new materials, urban consumer industry (smart home, green food, fashion clothing, lighting and sound, cosmetics), high-end equipment manufacturing (intelligent equipment and robots, rail transit equipment, ships and marine engineering equipment), and biomedicine industries, the action plan said.
Meanwhile, the city will accelerate the construction of Guangzhou Nansha Science and Technology City, located at the mouth of the Pearl River, and the Mingzhu Science Park of Chinese Academy of Science that are expected to play a big part in the city's scientific and technological innovation in the future.
And a number of new innovation centers, key State laboratories, research and development centers and scientific research institutions will also be set up in the city to help realize its goals.
