More than 5,000 participants joined in the 2019 Hohhot City Orienteering Challenge that kicked off in Hohhot in Inner Mongolia on Nov 9, according to people.com.cn.
The sport of orienteering involves map reading and cross-country running where competitors race through an unknown area to checkpoints using compass and map. The winner is the one who finishes in the least time.
Differing from conventional orienteering, organizers said the city’s event is popular with residents of all ages because of its special features including extreme challenges.
A total of six routes were set up for the event, which passed through Hohhot’s landmarks, streets and lanes.
