A charity gala about funding the caring for poverty-stricken and left-behind children -- and the establishment of an Ordos office for an Inner Mongolia social foundation for poverty alleviation -- was held in Ordos recently, according to local officials.

It was held in the city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Nov 29, they said.

Sponsored by the Inner Mongolia social foundation for poverty alleviation, the gala aimed to appeal to compassionate people and enterprises to work together for charity and devote and pay attention to the education and health of poverty-stricken and left-behind children.

At the event, one of the poverty alleviation projects created by the Ordos office of the Inner Mongolia social foundation for poverty alleviation was officially launched.

Officials said the foundation contributed 800 sets of "Loving supplies bags" -- which contain some daily necessities for living and studying -- to the Ordos office for poverty-stricken children.

At the gala, compassionate companies, associations and individuals jointly donated 1,874,041 yuan ($265,863) in cash and goods to the cause.

According to local media reports, the poverty alleviation project includes aid for education and aid for serious illness.

Officials said that "Aid for education" is a special project set up by the foundation for the poor and out of school children at the basic education stage. "Serious illness aid" is a special fund set up by the foundation for children under the age of 12.

The Inner Mongolia social foundation for poverty alleviation is a public fund established in June 2015.

Over the past four years, it has raised over 20 million yuan for various relief funds and goods. Officials say that more than 100,000 people have benefited from the projects that the foundation has launched.
