The Suzhou Industrial Technology Research Institute of Zhejiang University in Suzhou New District (SND), East China's Jiangsu province, was recently identified as a national tech company incubator by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The institute was jointly established by Zhejiang University and SND's management committee in 2011.
After eight years of development, the institute has grown into a platform for technological research and development, tech company incubation, consultation, and talent training.
It is now home to more than 30 venture teams, 13 research centers for electronic devices and modern technology related to traditional Chinese medicine, and nine joint R&D centers. To date, it has fostered the development of 76 tech companies.
In recent years, SND has been focusing on innovation-driven development and is using its innovative edge to drive economic upgrading.
Moreover, the district has improved services from local tech company incubators and accelerated the development of such incubators.
As of 2018, SND is home to 10 tech company incubators at the provincial level and five at the national level.
