The 2019 "Rainbow Bridge Poets Gathering" International Poetry Culture and Art Festival will be held in Yangzhou on Nov 29, after being held in Hong Kong and Shanghai earlier this month.
A number of renowned poets from countries such as Peru, Greece and Hungary will visit the ancient city in East China's Jiangsu province.
This is the fourth time that Yangzhou has hosted the event after hosting it in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
In addition to participating in an academic exchange activity, the attending guests will tour Yangzhou and learn about the city’s culture, history, architecture and food.
Xiuqi, or poets gathering, which can be traced back to the Zhou Dynasty (11th century – 256 BC) in China, was originally a good luck ceremony but later developed into a gathering for poets.
One of the most famous poet gatherings in Chinese history was the Rainbow Bridge Gathering at Slender West Lake in Yanghzou, which was attended by nearly 10,000 men of letters at its peak during the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911).
