The Cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall, formerly known as the Nanjing Grand Theater, was built in 1930 and opened on March 26 that same year.
In the decades after 1959, the concert hall has been one of the centers of Shanghai music events. The Shanghai Spring Music Festival and the International Radio Music Festival have been held here.
Many famous Chinese and foreign musicians, including violinists Isaac Stern, Salvador Accardo, Igor Oistrakh, Pinchas Zukerman and Kyung Wha Chung, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianists Alicia de Larrocha, Fou Ts'ong and Yin Chengzong have performed at the hall, as have noted orchestras like the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Italian International Orchestra, the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra Chamber Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the China Symphony Orchestra.
It is closed for renovation until January 2020.
