The Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center was established in 1995 with the merging of the Shanghai People's Arts Theater and the Shanghai Youth Drama Troupe -- both founded in the 1950s and having played important roles in the development of drama in China.
Today SDAC's team of professional playwrights, directors, actors and stage designers produces more than 50 productions and engages more than 300,000 audience members every year, most less than 45 years old.
In addition to the three performance spaces in its main building on Anfu Road, the center also includes an art theater, drama salon and Studio D6.
SDAC also hosts the ACT Shanghai International Theater Festival annually, bringing a wide range of international performing arts productions to local audiences. Since 2005, more than 150groups from over twenty different countries have participated in the festival.
Dedicated to artistic development and global outlook, SDAC is one of the most active performing arts institutions in China’s flourishing cultural landscape.
