Shenyang Qingquan Shengjing rowing team from the capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, went to the United States and participated in the Head of the Charles Regatta, also known HOCR, which was held in the city of Boston on Oct 19-20, city officials said.
They added that it was Northeast China’s first rowing team to take part in the event.
This May, Shenyang Qingquan Shengjing rowing team, together with Beijing Xingzhi Tansuo rowing team, applied to take part in the HOCR.
The two teams formed a new team, officials said.
In August, the new team received an invitation to the event, thrilling members of the Shenyang Qingquan Shengjing rowing team.
Six teams from China participated in this year’s race, of whom two were from universities. The Shenyang-Beijing new team finished the 4.8-kilometer competition with a time of 21 min 16 sec.
The largest-scale rowing competition in the world, the HOCR was founded in 1965 and this year was its 55th season.
This year, a total of 10,482 rowers from 762 rowing clubs participated in the event from all around the world, attracting 400,000 spectators.
Officials said that participation in the event gave the Shenyang team an experience of the US rowing culture, as the Chinese rowers exchanged rowing experiences with the top competitors and learned about advanced rowing teaching ideas.
