The 2019 Spring City (Jinan) Marathon – the first international marathon named after the city – concluded in Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, on Nov 2.
More than 20,000 runners from around 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Kenya, Russia, Singapore, and Malaysia, took part in the event.
David Barmast Tumo from Kenya took first place in the men's race with a record time of 2 hours 20 minutes 12 seconds.
Chinese runner Bai Li won the women's race with a record time of 2 hours 35 minutes 24 seconds.
Jinan is often referred to as "Spring City" because it is home to a number of well-known artesian springs. The marathon course links many of the city's scenic spots, including several springs, Daming Lake, and several parks, showcasing Jinan's unique autumn scenery.
Jointly hosted by the Shandong Administration of Sports, Jinan municipal government, and Chinese Athletics Association, the international event was able to provide participants with comprehensive services by recruiting volunteers from local universities and enlisting health workers and policemen to ensure safety.
