Located in Lujiazui Financial District of Pudong New Area, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center is one of Shanghai's most iconic cultural facilities.
The art center was designed by the French architect Paul Andreu (1938-2018), with a total construction area of nearly 40,000 square meters. When viewed from above, it looks like a beautiful phalaenopsis orchid.
The art center includes a concert hall, an opera hall and a recital hall.
The concert hall has 1,953 seats, which can meet the requirements of large symphony orchestras and choirs, as well as various solos and recitals.
The opera hall is decorated with red as the predominant color. It can hold up to 1,015 audience members, with the orchestra pit able to accommodatee a symphony orchestra of 100 persons.
The stage is installed with state-of-the-art staging machinery, including motorized rigging systems, stage wagons, a walk-on 14-meter-diameter turntable, a ballet wagon covered with the dance floor and five double-layer electric lifting decks. It can accommodate complex scene changes and fully meet the needs of opera, ballet, drama, opera, musicals and gala shows.
The recital hall has 333 seats. The overall interior decor is dominated by a blue color scheme. The golden Swiss pearwood floored hall is built as the only one dedicated to chamber music performance.
Since its official opening on July 1st 2005, Shanghai Oriental Art Center has hosted a series of high-level performances, such as the debut concert of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in Shanghai, the performance series of "Symphony in Shanghai Oriental" and "The Peak Symphony".
