Hohhot has been taking great strides in accelerating the upgrading of its dairy industry, with remarkable achievements made, according to officials at the Hohhot municipal government.
Yili and Mengniu, two dairy companies in China headquartered in Hohhot, now rank among the top 10 dairy companies globally, the officials added.
Hohhot, capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is also known as the dairy capital of China with the sector being one of its leading industries.
Relying on local advantages in -- terms of resources, the region’s developed industrial base as well as policy support -- the scale of dairy industry in Hohhot has expanded rapidly and the scale of farming has been continuously improved.
In 2018, the large-scale breeding rate of dairy cows in the city reached over 98 percent, and nearly 85 percent of the farmers participated in the industrial chain. Last year the total combined sales revenue of Yili and Mengniu hit 150 billion yuan ($21.13 billion).
Officials said the city accelerated the implementation of a number of projects, such as Yili Health Food Industrial Park and Mengniu China Dairy Industrial Park, as well as developed key projects including a national dairy technology innovation center.
In addition, in order to further promote the dairy industry, Hohhot issued strategies, they added, which are called Three Opinions on Building an Upgraded Version of China's Dairy Capital, and Three-Year Action Plan for Promoting the Upgrade of the Dairy Industry (2018-2020).
