Some 1,000 cyclists from 42 cycling associations and clubs took part in a national bicycle race opening in Hohhot, capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Oct 13, according to people.cn – the online version of the People’s Daily newspaper.
Officials said the event, as the first national bicycle race hosted by the Sports Bureau of Inner Mongolia, attracted wide participation of cyclists from provinces and autonomous regions including Shanxi and Hebei provinces and Inner Mongolia.
Li Xin, a participant from Baotou in Inner Mongolia, said he started to bicycle years ago and enjoyed the event much because the cycling route gave him a chance to view the city’s unique landscape and landmarks.
In addition to promoting Hohhot’s cityscape, the event was also aimed at promoting the values of environmental protection as well as an eco-friendly lifestyle.
