Lanzhou Taiping Drum dance is performed by the Han people living in northwestern China, mostly Lanzhou and Jiuquan of Gansu province.
Carrying an auspicious meaning, this dance is loved by local people. Reputed as "China's Top Drum Dance", Lanzhou Taiping Drum dance is among the "Chinese Five Drums", along with Ansai Waist Drum, Weifeng Gongs and Drums, Kaifeng Drum, and Fengyang Flower Drum.
On May 20, 2006, Lanzhou Taiping Drum dance was listed among the first batch of National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China for protection.
