Hailing from Zhejiang province, Zhu Long'an (1907-75) and Gao Yihong (1908-82) were members of the Xiling Painting and Calligraphy Society in the provincial capital of Hangzhou. After moving to Taiwan province in 1949, they continued to create and promote classic Chinese paintings and calligraphy, helping consolidate the studies of Chinese cultural traditions.
In 2018 and 2019, works of the two artists were donated by their families to the Zhejiang Art Museum to enrich the institution's collection of artists native to Zhejiang and the studies of their style.
A selection of Zhu's and Gao's works are now on show at an exhibition at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, through Nov 17.
It displays the endeavors by those artists to carry on the exploration with traditional art medium in Taiwan and also, their homesickness expressed through the brush strokes and colors.
