According to statistics, Zhanjian's foreign trade to Belt and Road countries reached 9.03 billion yuan ($1.28 billion) in the first three quarters of this year, a year-on-year increase of 34.4 percent. Among them, exports totaled 5.79 billion yuan, up 27.6 percent, and imports totaled 3.24 billion yuan, up 48.7 percent.
Import and export by general trade reached 7.65 billion yuan, an increase of 37.6 percent, accounting for 84.8 percent of the city's total import and export value to Belt and Road countries.
The import and export of private enterprises in Zhanjiang to Belt and Road countries was 4.24 billion yuan, up 31.3 percent. The import and export of state-owned enterprises was 2.91 billion yuan, up 32.2 percent, while the import and export of foreign-invested enterprises reached 1.87 billion yuan, an increase of 46.5 percent.
The main import and export markets were India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia. The export of furniture and its parts, as well as the import of aquatic products have grown rapidly.
Since the beginning of this year, Zhanjiang Customs have introduced support measures to promote the development of aquatic products and cold chain services, building Zhanjiang Port into a regional container transportation center and bulk commodity trading center. It has also supported Zhanjiang Port in opening more than 40 domestic and foreign container shipping routes, covering major trade areas in Southeast Asia and East Asia.
