The opening ceremony of the 11th China-ASEAN Youth Camp and fourth China-ASEAN Youth Summit was held in Beijing on Wednesday.
Themed "Uniting Youths Inspiring Change – Paving the Way for a China-ASEAN Future", the event attracted more than 160 participants from China, and Southeast Asian countries.
During the eight-day event, participants will visit the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the National Museum of China, and Chinese startups such as ByteDance and Beijing Genomics Institute.
The model summit from Friday to Sunday will cover a wide range of topics, including security cooperation in the Asia-Pacific, e-commerce cooperation among SMEs, the financial integration of ASEAN, blue economy, and the usage of clean and renewable energy.
In his opening speech, Wu Wei, deputy secretary-general of the All-China Youth Federation, expressed his hope for young people in today's world, namely "to be a successor of China-ASEAN friendship, a forerunner of China-ASEAN cooperation, and a co-constructor of the China-ASEAN destiny community".
"The event serves as an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding between countries and further contribute to the exchanges between China and ASEAN," said Zhu Yibo, vice-president of the School of International Studies, Peking University.
