The unveiling ceremonies of "Lei Feng school" and Lei Feng statue were held in Chengguan No. 2 Primary School in Tongbai county, Nanyang, on October 18.

The school will also serve as an education practice base of learning from Lei Feng to cultivate virtues for juveniles.

Lu Changjian, major general and former commander of Henan provincial military command, and Ji Ling, commander of the Chinese PLA Nanyang Military Region, attended the event.

In 2018, the Lei Feng magazine launched the project of building 100 Lei Feng schools in the new era for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China in 2021, when the country aims to build a moderately prosperous society.

Chengguan No. 2 primary school in Tongbai county has about one hundred years of history in the old revolutionary area.

It is also the first "Lei Feng school" and the first education practice base of learning from Lei Feng in Nanyang city.

At the ceremony, a Lei Feng statue was unveiled at the school. The school also issued appointment letters of "After-school Activity Counselor" to Lei Feng's class soldiers.

The students are encouraged to learn from Lei Feng, an example of selfless Chinese role model.

Lei Feng (1940-1962), a popular Chinese role model of the 1950s and one of China's most respected soldiers, contributed to people across the country.

Lei Feng was born into a poor peasant family on December 18, 1940, and he died in an accident in Fushun City, Liaoning Province, northeast China, when he was in service as a soldier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

After Lei died, people found Lei's diary and happened to learn that he had assisted and made donations to many other servicemen and civilians.

On March 5, 1963, the People's Daily published an inscription of the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong, which reads, "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng."

Chinese people are familiar with Chairman Mao Zedong's saying "learning from Lei Feng", which encourages them to learn from him as a role model.

For decades, Lei has been called the "Great Communist Soldier" and has remained one of the most popular role models for Chinese.
