Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, held an art activity to celebrate the upcoming Double Ninth Festival at the city’s broadcasting and TV station, on Sept 25.
The Double Ninth Festival, which falls on the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, falls on Oct 7 this year. It is a traditional Chinese festival when people often spend their time with the elders of the family.
Representatives from Shenyang municipal government, Shenyang sanitation and health commission and the Shenyang committee for aging people services attended the event.
The activity aimed to encourage people to spend more time with their elders and was also held in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, according to officials.
The newly established Shenyang committee for aging people services, including 37 members, is engaged in helping senior citizens, such as helping them buy insurance, giving them allowances and providing caring services.
In October, more activities will be held to celebrate the Double Ninth Festival, officials added.
