Shenyang, the capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, received a surge in visitors from all over the world during the Oct 1-7 National Day holiday, according to statistics from the Shenyang culture, tourism, radio and television bureau.
The bureau said a total of 9.23 million visitors equated to a year-on-year growth of 11.5 percent.
The city saw tourism revenue of 6.69 billion yuan ($936.69 million) during the period, representing an increase of 15.1 percent year-on-year.
The authorities said that a powerful magnet drawing the visitors was the unique culture of Shenyang. Shenyang Palace Museum and Marshal Zhang’s Mansion proved the most popular with tourists.
During the seven-day holiday, Shenyang Palace Museum received 215,000 visitors, a year-on-year growth of 17.03 percent, Marshal Zhang’s Mansion received 121,000 visitors, an increase of 1.43 percent and the September 18th Incident Memorial Museum received 74,000 visitors, an increase of 10.9 percent.
Rural tourism also proved popular during the holiday. Eighteen provincial-level rural tourism demonstrative villages in Shenyang offered special one-day tours for visitors, receiving 7,531 tourists in seven day and generating tourism income of 238,600 yuan.
