Tiexi district in Shenyang, in Northeast China’s Liaoning province, launched a campaign to promote household garbage sorting in 48 of its residential communities on Oct 13.
Officials said that the district now has 299 residential communities with around 220,000 residents. The nominated 48 communities started to implement garbage sorting -- and the number is expected to reach 143 at the end of this year, according to local authorities.
Communities, property management companies, volunteers and renewable resources recycling companies are working together to promote the initiative in Tiexi district, the officials added.
They will guide residents to sort their garbage properly and launch incentive schemes -- exchanging commodities with points generated by garbage sorting, to improve residents’ motivation.
