New marine insect discovered in Hainan

A new type of surface-dwelling water bug within the Hermatobates genus was discovered in Lingyang Jiao (羚羊礁) in the city of Sansha, Hainan province, according to reports from Hainan Daily on Oct 11.

Early on Oct 3, a paper on the first appearance and description of the marine insect was published in Zootaxa, a major scientific journal for animal taxonomists, by a research team from Sun Yat-sen University. The bug was named after the place where it was found, Lingyang Jiao Hermatobates.
