The Department of Culture and Tourism of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region recently proposed 20 three-day self-driving routes for visitors to explore the area’s unique and amazing scenery. With the approach of summer, Inner Mongolia welcomes its busy tourism season. So, why not take a look along any of the 20 routes?
1. See prairie and horse culture
Route: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Zhenglan Banner in Xiliin Gol League, Site of Xanadu, Taibus Banner, Yuma Garden, Gombolag Grassland
Highlights: explore the mystery of the Site of Xanadu; enjoy the elegant scenery of Jinlianchuan Grassland; watch equestrian events at Yuma Garden in Taibus Banner; visit Yuma Garden Museum, learn about the history of horse culture; ride a galloping horse in Gombolag Grassland and enjoy the flowers
2. See Mongolian nomadic culture dating back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368)
Route: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Ulaanqab, Huitengxile Grassland, Hohhot
Highlights: ride a galloping horse on the Huitengxile Grassland, Ulaanqab; become intoxicated with beautiful scenery of windmills, yellow wildflowers and prairies; visit nomadic families in grassland hinterland; appreciate precious cultural relics of Inner Mongolia Library in Hohhot; seek the history of the tea road while walking along old streets
3. See the geological wonders of the grasslands
Route: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Chifeng, Yulong Sand Lake, Hexigten Banner, Dali Lake
Highlights: explore the mystery of the Stone Age at Yulong Sand Lake; appreciate the local Stone forest in Hexigten Banner Geology Park; relax in hot springs at Hot Ponds; wander the Gongger Grassland after arriving at Dali Lake, China Swan Lake
4. See a sea of grasslands
Route: Shanxi province, Ulaanqab, Daihai Lake in Liangcheng, Huitengxile Grassland, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Museum, Zhaojun Museum
Highlights: relax in hot springs at Daihai Lake; ride a galloping horse on Huitengxile Grassland; visit Zhaojun Museum
5. Travel across a wild sea of sand
Route: Shaanxi province, Genghis Khan Mausoleum in Ordos, Ordos Grassland, Xiangsha Bay
Highlights: visit the mausoleum of Mongolia’s Cconqueror, Genghis Khan; ride a horse, shoot an arrow, go grass skating and enjoy a Mongolian wedding performance on Ordos Grassland; view a desert landscape, ride a camel and try sand skiing in Xiangsha Bay
