Origin of the Tribe
Muminggan people are believed to be the offspring of Hasar, the younger brother of Genghis Khan (1162-1227). In 1633, the tribe submitted to the Later Jin regime (1616-1636), predecessor of the Qing Dynasty and then migrated to an area north of the Yin Mountains in 1649.
Features of the Clothing
Men often wear blue or brown robes with orange and blue waistbands, while women usually choose azure, dark green, and beige robes with green or pink girdles attached with colorful ribbons from the back. Silver breast ornaments are also worn. Boots are varied in different styles, including those with large sticking up toecaps, small sticking up toecaps and round toes.
Dressing Customs
Women like wearing round caps or headbands in bright colors in summer; while in winter they sport cone-shaped brimmed hats with red tassels or flat hats with nap brims. As in other Mongolian tribes, women in different age groups have their own dressing codes: maidens usually wear frontlet tassels or headbands (knotted on the right side without covering the vertex); newly married women wear headgear in full-set and long waistcoats with colorful belts, sewing kits, pouches and silver ornaments. In addition to robes matched with long waistcoats, married women wear headgear (mostly made of pearls, jade, agate, gold and silver) without frontlets. Headbands are worn on important occasions but in daily life the headbands (knotted on both sides and covering the vertex) are allowed to fall over the shoulders. Married men wear riding jackets in general.
