A selection of Shi's original bamboo designs, including the Chair Ruoji and the Chair Ruomo was on display during the exhibition.

Chair Ruomo is the winner for the German Design Award 2020. The two chairs capture the unique aesthetics of natural bamboo and bamboo composites, while boasting ergonomic designs and streamlined shapes, breathing new life into bamboo materials through an ingenious combination of art and technology, critics said.

Unlike many of Shi's previous works, the products exhibited at the Expo are more market-oriented and accessible to consumers.

By incorporating design features that would make the products more suited for mass production and easier to package and transport, all the while without sacrificing their artistic merit, the designer hopes to maximize the economic, social and ecological benefits of bamboo, and create more momentum for the entire bamboo industry.

The exhibition, which will take place from September 19 to October 9 in the NBAR Garden (near Door 3)of the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019, also showcases Shi's latest bamboo furniture collection "The Sichuan Longmen Teahouse Series II," bamboo teaware "Miesheng Chaxiang Tea Set" and "Bamboo Clock."

With a passion for natural materials, Shi has been a vocal advocate for bamboo over the years, dedicated to creating bamboo designs that embody traditional Chinese design philosophies, address the challenges of modern living and push the boundaries of craftsmanship and technology.

His works have garnered international accolades and show the world the excellence and charm of original Chinese design.

Recently, his teaware designs have been included in Zhonghua Chaqiju Tongdian (literally: "A Comprehensive Reference for Chinese Teaware"), hailed as the "encyclopedia of Chinese tea culture," while his furniture work will be featured in the upcoming Contemporary China Furniture Design - New Wave of Creativity by the London-based Laurence King Publishing.
