The city of Ordos made it onto the list of China’s top 100 cities with the greatest potential for growth, in findings released on Aug 23 by Chinese think thank, the Hengda Institute.
Besides Ordos, which was placed at No 75, Hohhot and Baotou in Inner Mongolia autonomous region also made it on the list.
The list ranked 336 cities across the country in terms of how much potential they have for future development.
Shenzhen took first spot, followed by Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in that order.
The institute found that the top 100 cities on the list created about 73 percent of national GDP and had 50 percent of the country’s total population, but only occupied 13 percent of China’s land.
