German technology giant Siemens AG will continue to facilitate technological support in the Guangdong-Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, according to a senior executive of the company.

"We will focus on five priorities – enabling clean energy, developing digital manufacturing, building a smart city cluster, driving innovation and nurturing local talents," said Lothar Herrmann, president and CEO of Siemens Greater China.

Herrmann made the remarks after Siemens announced plans to build its most advanced factory for the production of distribution transformers in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, during a recent forum on the development of the Greater Bay Area.

The Greater Bay Area includes Hong Kong and Macao, as well as nine cities in the Pearl River Delta region.

The new factory, planned to begin operation in 2021, will apply the Industrie 4.0 standard and become a Siemens model factory in the global market, according to Herrmann.

During the forum, the company has also expanded cooperation with local industrial enterprises, research and industrial organizations in various areas, in support of the development of the Greater Bay Area.

Siemens is currently installing its most efficient H-class gas turbines in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, with one such unit able to meet the demands of over 1 million households and save carbon emissions comparable to those of 380,000 cars.

The Germany-based company has also cooperated with around 20 universities and vocational colleges in Guangdong, in an effort to strengthen the Greater Bay Area's digital talent pool.
