The expansion of the Zhuhai Energy New Materials Technology base is to form an upstream and downstream industrial chain with Zhuhai Yinlong New Energy and other enterprises, helping the city to become a world-leading new-energy support industrial base.
Reporters were recently led on a tour of the Gaolan Port Economic Zone gigafactory for lithium-Ion battery separators. The bustling 180,000-sq-m (44-acre) plant in Jinwan District opened just this past May and cost 3 billion yuan ($421.6 million). It already has 12 automated production lines producing 1 billion sq m of membrane annually. Five production lines solely supply products to South Korea’s LG Chem, and two exclusively send to Panasonic.
Now it is adding four wet-laying production lines in a 60,000-sq-m (15-acre) plant costing 1.1 billion yuan ($154.6 million). The new base will be capable of producing 300 million sq m of membrane with an annual output value of 5 billion yuan ($703 million) by 2020.
The products have a qualification rate of 95 percent and are popular in both domestic and international markets. The company also supplies lithium-ion battery manufacturers Samsung SDI, CATL, BYD Auto, Hefei Guoxuan High-Tech Power Energy, Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-Stock, and Zhuhai Coslight Battery. Tesla is also showing interest.
Yinlong, which is located not far away on Jinhu Road, Qingwan Industrial Park, Sanzao, has been in business since 2009. Yinlong batteries are used by AES, INE, Bombardier, Vestas, Ford, Proterra, Amberjac Projects, BAE Systems, State Grid Corp of China, China Southern Power Grid, CRRC, and Shenhua Group
Zhuhai Energy New Materials Technology's share of the domestic market currently exceeds 50 percent, while its overseas market has also been expanding.
Founded in December 2016, Zhuhai Energy New Materials Technology is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanghai Energy New Materials Technology (Semcorp). It specializes in the manufacturing, sales, service, R&D, consultation, and technical transfer of lithium-ion battery separators, but is equally well-versed in coating film.
