Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, one of the first 31 independent undergraduate art colleges in China, has developed into an important base for communication and exchanges of ceramic culture and art, and training ceramic talents.
Founded in 1910 as China Pottery School, the university became Jiangxi Provincial Pottery Technical College, and received the right to confer master's degrees in 1984 and doctoral degrees in 2013. In 2016, it was given its current name.
The university, with floor space of more than 133 hectares, has set up 11 colleges, one graduate college, and one international college. It has over 20,000 full-time students, among whom are 1,321 graduate and doctoral students, and about 100 international students.
Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute employs 780 full-time teachers, including 339 with senior professional titles and 170 with doctoral degrees. Among the outstanding talents, there are some 50 high-level talents who are winners of the National Foundation for Eminent Youth, and experts enjoying special allowances awarded by the State Council.
Focusing on ceramic technology, the university offers students 48 undergraduate degree programs, of which its art design and ceramic culture, ceramic materials engineering and electromechanical, and ceramic economy and management have been listed as advantageous and characteristic discipline groups.
The university's foreign student education has actively promoted international communication and cooperation since 1958, and has trained more than 3,000 international students from 20 countries. Up to now, it has established cooperative relationships with nearly 30 universities and porcelain artists associations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, France and South Korea.
