A proposed revision to the draft civil code would allow close relatives to decide whether to donate the body or organs of their deceased loved ones.

The draft section on personal rights in the civil code was submitted to the bimonthly session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, which opened Thursday.

The latest draft is a change to the previous version, as it is expected to extend the decision to donate from a deceased family member who expressed the wish to do so when they were alive to their spouse, adult children and parents. But the donation could only be conducted if the potential donor did not object to the option while alive.

Families of the deceased can make the donation via a written agreement, according to the latest draft.

The change is aimed at bolstering the development of the cause of medicine and promoting the core values of the socialist society, it added.
