HARBIN -- Authorities in Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, have begun overhauling the local funeral industry.
A crackdown has been launched to fight against a series of illegal activities, including the purchasing and sale of the information of the deceased, transporting bodies illegally and building cemeteries without approval.
The city authorities also plan to investigate cases related to the industry in recent years, and launch a comprehensive auditing investigation into the agencies engaged in the industry.
The campaign aims to eliminate "dark and evil forces" in the funeral industry, according to the local government.
