Shanghai has already made progress in city management after a little over a year since the implementation of an action plan aimed at improving the city's development, officials from city government said on Thursday.

The government said that it has already upgraded the facades of 218 buildings that were deemed to have safety hazards such as unstable air conditioning brackets and advertising signs.

"Shanghai will enhance the investigation and management of security risks related to outdoor advertising signs hung on buildings and remind people responsible for the buildings to do regular checks," said Jin Chen, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Development.

In terms of urban landscaping, a total of 219,000 square meters of flower beds have been built along roads in three core regions, namely People's Square, the Bund, and the Lujiazui Financial Area.

Advanced technologies such as big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence have also facilitated efficient city management, said government officials.

In addition, around 20,000 shared parking spaces have been added to the city.

According to Cai Jun, inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the city has also completed 296 projects to improve traffic conditions, including the widening of roads, the addition of safety facilities and the optimization of lanes.
