A delegation of more than 100 members from South China's Macao Special Administrative Region started their visit in North China's Hebei province on Sunday.
The delegation, led by Fernando Chui Sai-on, chief executive of Macao SAR, arrived in Chengde city on Sunday and will visit several scenic spots in the city and Zhangjiakou during their five-day trip. Delegation members include 100 youth and student representatives from over 30 youth clubs and schools in Macao.
"The trip can help the youth of Macao deepen their understanding of our motherland and enhance their patriotism," Chui Sai-on said at a meeting Friday with Wang Dongfeng, secretary of the Communist Party of China Hebei Provincial Committee.
He added that Macao will actively guide the region's youth to come to Hebei and participate in the province's innovative and entrepreneurial activities.
"Hebei is facing great opportunities, especially the integrated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the building of Xiongan New Area and the preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics," said Wang, adding that the opportunities also provide a broad platform for deepening cooperation between Hebei and Macao.
The visit is meaningful as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and also the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, Wang said.
Wang added he hoped Hebei and Macao will strengthen communication and cooperation in economic, cultural, technological and tourism areas.
Chui Sai-on said he expects Macao could participate in the building of Xiongan New Area in Hebei, which was established in April 2017, according to the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR.
The delegation visited Chengde Mountain Resort, an imperial palace and garden, on Monday morning, and will visit Saihanba, a forest in Chengde, and places related to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Zhangjiakou during the trip.
