As China enters the hottest days of summer, sales of summer products have surged in the country, according to data released by Alibaba's online marketplace Tmall on Thursday.
The sales volume of portable neck fans increased by 153 times compared with 2018, among which eastern China's Jiangsu province boasts the largest number of buyers, with female consumers accounting for more than 70 percent and most of them below 30 years old.
The facekini, a nylon mask designed for swimmers and beachgoers which covers the head and reveals only the eyes, nose and mouth, is popular among residents in Fujian province on China's eastern coast. The product can block UV radiation and jellyfish stings.
Data shows that since the kick-off of the dog days of summer, the sales of facekinis have increased 116 percent year-on-year, the data show.
Arm sleeves are also welcomed by residents of Fujian, which were first produced in the Republic of Korea. Made of ice silk material, they have good air permeability and are resistant to heat.
In addition to physical sun protection measures, cooling food to eat in the summer heat is also favored by many residents. Data show that sales of a famous ice cream produced in northeast China have increased 565 percent compared to last year since the dog days began, among which women born in the 1980s in Shanghai are the most active buyers.
