Highland of Scientific Research and Talents Training set in Xi'an

The Research Institute of Electrical Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University settled on July 23 in China West Science and Technology Innovation Harbor, as a representative of scientific research and talent training for electrical engineering.

According to Li Shengtao, executive vice-dean of the School of Electrical Engineering at the university, the institute was formed based on his school. Its establishment will bring focus to the major needs of energy reform in China, adhere to the concept of "electrical +" development, take solving bottlenecks and key issues in the future development of China's power grid as its core, and build large scientific installations as its means of engagement.

Electrical engineering studies the scientific and technological problems in energy and electricity. It involves the fields of the environment, space, ocean, daily life and national defense. It is the core in the field of modern science and technology. It relates to the national economy and people's livelihoods, and is a priority in the economic and social development strategies of many countries in the world. The degree of development of electrical engineering represents a country's level of science and technology.

China, with a long history in electrical engineering, has become a global and international leader. The discipline of electrical engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University has made an indelible contribution to this process. With future energy development moving towards clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient sources, the role of electrical engineering is even more prominent, meeting a new era and new challenges.

China West Science and Technology Innovation Harbor is a national project constructed by the Ministry of education and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, and involves both Xi'an Jiaotong University and Xixian New Zone. It is an important platform where Shaanxi and the university can implement the the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the strategies of the innovation drive and the development of the western region.
“At the new starting point of settling in the innovation harbor, we will make every effort to build the institute into a highland of scientific research and personnel training to meet the goal of building world-class disciplines,” Li said.
