A live-action performance featuring 400 cubic meters of sand falling onto the stage debuted on Friday in Zhangye, Northwest China's Gansu province.
The sand fell 12 meters to create a scene resembling a sandstorm in the Gobi Desert. The performance, called Sand Show, was the first of its kind in China.
The performance was set against the background of the ancient Silk Road and shared local history and folk culture in Zhangye.
