Established in 1978, Leshan Normal University became a provincial-level undergraduate institution under the approval of Ministry of Education in March 2000.
Leshan Normal University is located in Leshan, a city in Sichuan province known for the Leshan Giant Buddha, and enjoys a longstanding history and splendid scenery.
The university covers 67 hectares and has an overall building area of 433,000 square meters. The library has 1.84 million paper books, 9.21 million digital books and 48 data bases. The general value of teaching and research equipment in the university is 170 million yuan ($24.72 million).
Currently the university has set up 18 departments and 59 undergraduate programs, covering nine disciplines: literary arts, sciences, engineering, teaching, economics, management, law, agriculture and arts.
By the end of April 2019, the university had more than 18,000 undergraduate and junior college students and employed over 1,200 staff members, 500 of whom held senior titles.
The university has formed cooperation relationships with 37 overseas universities and research institutes, such as Stockholm University, Palacky University in Moravia and Swansea University in Wales.
