Highways
Sichuan province has 6,016 kilometers of highways, ranking first in West China and third in the whole country.
Setting Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province as its center, the highway network is radially distributed across Sichuan and is intertwined with highways running east to west and north to south.
Sichuan has several major highway arteries connecting to destinations such as Tibet autonomous region, and Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi and Yunnan provinces as well as Chongqing. Chengdu passenger station is the largest highway passenger terminal station in Sichuan province.
Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway, the first expressway in Sichuan province, was put into operation in 1995 with a length of 340.2 km, and is a highway traffic artery linking Chengdu and Chongqing.
Railways
After decades of construction, Sichuan province has developed into a transportat junction for railways in Southwest China. The railway system in Sichuan has five trunk railways, including the Baoji-Chengdu Railway, eight branch lines and four local lines.
Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, the first Chinese-built railway after the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, has been considered an important pathway connecting Sichuan with Guizhou province and Southern China. Baoji-Chengdu Railway, which is linked to the Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway, was the first electrified railway in China.
Airlines and airports
Sichuan province has 13 airports, including Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, Mianyang Nanjiao Airport, Luzhou Lantian Airport, Jiuzhai-Huanglong Airport and Yibin Caiba Airport.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, the fourth-largest aviation hub in China, is an important distribution center for passengers and cargo in Southwest China.
In 2018, the passenger throughput of the airport reached 52.95 million. By the end of 2018, the airport had 335 airlines operating from it, with 114 heading overseas to cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Moscow, Paris, London, Copenhagen, Melbourne, Sydney, Mauritius, Addis Ababa and most cities in Asia.
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is under construction and is expected to be put into use in 2020. Its passenger throughput will be twice as many as Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.
