The municipal government of Ningbo in Zhejiang province recently released a plan to accelerate the rollout of 5G technologies, local media reported on July 16.
According to the plan, the city will focus on developing intelligent ports, intelligent driving, the industrial internet and the smart city by using 5G technologies, and strive to apply 5G in 100 different applications by 2022.
"5G can be applied to many fields such as transportation, medical care and energy due to its fast speed, reliable connections and low latency," according to a local official.
As a national manufacturing base, the city will also leverage 5G to promote the transformation and upgrading of its manufacturing industry, the official added.
Specifically, the city will aim to make breakthroughs in core devices such as chips and laser devices to develop 5G powered smart phones, intelligent connected vehicles and industrial robots.
Basic network construction and innovation are also emphasized in the plan, which requires the city to build 20,000 5G base stations by 2022 to stretch 5G signal coverage to all its towns, and to attract a group of innovative professionals to boost 5G research and development.
