Big book fair to be held in August

The 2019 Nanguo Shuxiang Festival & Zhanjiang Book Fair will be held from August 16 to 20 at Zhanjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center, providing a cultural feast for publishing industry insiders, visitors, cultural content providers, and government officials.

The event is sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the publicity department of the CPC Zhanjiang municipal committee. It is organized by Zhanjiang Daily and Zhanjiang Xinhua Bookstore.

According to organizers, the event will consist of five exhibitions, highlighting theme publications, life exploration, public culture, industrial cultural products, as well as media convergence.

There will be 12 exhibition areas displaying the latest development achievements in the publishing industry and accommodating a series of cultural activities. Parallel sessions will take place at 10 bookstores distributed around the city.

Through the exhibitions, the organizers hope to demonstrate the cultural charm of Zhanjiang, as well as meet people's ever-growing spiritual and cultural needs for a better life.

Tempting discounts will be offered to those buying books, as well as audio-visual, cultural, and sports products at the event. Locals are expected to have a high enthusiasm for participation also due to the various lectures on the agenda. Topics will include history, literature, art, military, education, health, and reading. Book-signing ceremonies will also be held.

Children's creative painting activities are also planned, as are an array of cultural activities such as children's musicals, the recitation of Chinese classic literature works, reading, singing, dancing, robot displays, poetry contests, school cultural exhibitions and lectures, as well as folk cultural performances.

Public welfare enterprises and institutions will work together with the organizers to carry out book donations and "book crossings." Students who are good at calligraphy will be invited to showcase their skills at the event and their works will be given to book buyers for free.
