Lyuliang invites ideas for green development of energy

The second Coal, Coking and Chemical Industrial Green Development Seminar for Belt and Road countries was held in Xiaoyi county in Lyuliang city, Shanxi province, on July 13. 

More than 400 delegates from countries along the Belt and Road -- government officials, entrepreneurs, experts and representatives of related industrial associations -- put forward suggestions on green industrial development. 

They also promoted energy cooperation along the Belt and Road through speeches and dialogues at the seminar hosted by the Lyuliang government and the China Economic Information Service, a subsidiary of Xinhua News Agency. 

Experts shared practical experience in pollution prevention and clean coal gasification technology in the coking industry, demonstrated advanced technological research achievements in the coking industry, and analyzed the latest market situation in the coking industry. 

Agreements on a total of 16 projects involving coal chemicals, new materials, new energy and high-end equipment manufacturing, with a total investment of 20.83 billion yuan ($3.03 billion), were signed at the seminar. 

Relying on its rich coal resources, Lyuliang is a major coal and coking industrial city in Shanxi province, with the output value of the coking industry accounting for 10 percent of its total annual industrial output value. 

The city's coke production and sales ranked first in Shanxi province in 2018 with coke output and sales to other provinces reaching 22.55 million tons -- 25 percent of the province's total -- and 17.65 million tons. 

To realize the green, intelligent, and aggregated development of its coking industry, Lyuliang has in recent years been strengthening the eco-protection responsibility of local companies, eliminating disqualified production capacity, optimizing its industrial layout, upgrading coking equipment and developing industrial clusters. 

Lyuliang will next encourage coking enterprises to focus on expanding product chains in tar processing, crude benzene refining and the chemical synthesis-based coke oven gas sector to boost deep processing of coking by-products, according to Wang Liwei, mayor of Lyuliang. 

By 2020, the city's output of coking by-products such as tar, crude benzene and coke oven gas are expected to reach 5 million tons, Wang added.
