Zhejiang Provincial People's Government approved the establishment of the Ningbo Qianwan New Area to better facilitate the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, according to an official document released on July 11.

With a planned area of 604 square kilometers, the new area will include three main parts: a Ningbo-Hangzhou Bay industrial cluster zone and two zones in Yuyao and Cixi, respectively.

According to the document, the new area is designed to be a strategic platform for the integrated development of the YRD region.

In recent years, the integration of the YRD region has been a hot topic in eastern China. The municipality of Shanghai and the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui are striving to build an economic belt and support the national strategy with a more close-knit network and more intense efforts.

Officials said that Zhejiang, as a main participant, is making contributions in all respects.

The document also stated that sticking to the concept of "ecology first" -- and focusing on the innovative work, the integration of industries and city development and development efficiency -- Ningbo Qianwan New Area is seen making a big difference.

It is expected to leverage the Ningbo-Hangzhou industrial cluster zone's industrial strengths to create a world-class manufacturing base, a leading zone for the Zhejiang-Shanghai cooperation and a pilot area in Hangzhou Bay for the integration of industries and city development.
