A total of 2,350 intelligent bus stops featuring multiple traffic services will cover the main urban area of Harbin, according to information from the city’s traffic bureau.
As of July 8, more than 2,100 intelligent bus stops had been installed in the city, with the remaining stops to be installed by the end of the year.
The bus stops feature a dark green electronic information display board. It uses global satellite positioning and a GPS navigation system and internet of things technology.
It also features a geographic information system, cloud computing and other advanced technologies. Officials said this provides real time traffic conditions, bus routes, real-time bus locations, bus arrival reminders, line operation times, passenger flows data, as well as other information such as weather forecasts and bus route adjustment announcements.
The bus stops also comes equipped with a monitoring system, which provides convenience for the bus control center to check passenger flows and tackle thieves and pickpockets.
An app providing information on real-time bus locations has also been launched, allowing passengers to check bus information and plan travel routes from home, helping them avoid the summer heat or extreme cold in winter.
