In first half of the year, container throughput of Tianjin Port grew to 8.33 million, a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent, which was higher than the national average, according to the Tianjin Port Group Co, Ltd.
These gratifying results are attributable to three key points: the port's being intelligent, eco-friendly, and geo-advantageous.
Tianjin Port has achieved two "firsts" in terms of innovation: it was the first port in the country to use automated gantry cranes by adopting 5G technology and the first to use a Beidou satellite navigation system to ensure accurate positioning of terminal homing devices.
"This year, the Tianjin Port Group's initiative has further strengthened the application of new technologies such as the internet, big data, and artificial intelligence, climbing to the peak of 'world-class intelligent ports'," Luo, vice president of the group said.
Another pervasive impetus is green development. Tianjin Port actively promotes the adjustment of its transportation structure while speeding up the use of clean energy and carrying out treatment of the Bohai Sea.
Besides, Tianjin Port functions as a bridge between Tianjin city and three Eurasian centers, one of which is Ulan Bator, capital of Mongolia. The country's largest volume of freight traffic flows between those two cities.
Its economic and trade cooperation also promotes the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.
