Yushu Horse Racing Festival

Yushu Horse Racing Festival is a traditional event that commences July 25 every year in Yushu Tibetan autonomous prefecture in West China's Qinghai province.

The festival was listed in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritages in June 2008.

Yushu Tibetan autonomous prefecture is blessed with vast areas with profound ethnic culture and history and splendid natural scenery.

As one of the grandest festivals in Yushu, the horse racing festival takes full advantage of the warm weather as the valley has lush green grasses suitable for long-distance horse races and tent camping.

Tibetan horse races and athletic competitions are becoming popular as tourist attractions. Other activities such as Tibetan wrestling, yak racing and archery will also be held during the festival.

Qinghai Cultural Tourism Festival

The first Qinghai Cultural Tourism Festival was held in Xining, the capital of Qinghai province in June 2003, and the 2019 event opened April 12. The event will run until October.

The event is aimed at promoting the development of the local cultural and tourism industry.

A total of 372 activities will be held during the event in 2019, attracting the participation of 1,268 companies managing tourism from home and abroad. More than 30 performances, such as themed light shows, concerts and tourism promotion fairs, will also be held to showcase the charms of Qinghai province.

Wang Luobin Music Art Festival

The first Wang Luobin Music Art Festival was held in Haibei Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Northwest China's Qinghai province in July 2002. The festival is aimed at showcasing the distinctive charms of Haibei through various kinds of activities covering aspects such as culture, sports, tourism, economy and trade.

Wang Luobin (1913-1996) is a renowned musician whose works were inspired by ethnic groups in West China. His trips to northwest China in the 1930s changed his life and contributed to his songwriting. Known as the "Father of Chinese Folk Music", or the "King of West China Songs", he collected and adapted more than 700 songs into eight albums, which became very popular not only in China. His classic songs, such as The Girl from Daban City and Raise Your Kerchief, have been performed by many singers.

Wang lived in Qinghai for more than a decade in the 1930s and 1940s, during which time he wrote some of his best-known pieces, including In a Far Away Fairy Land and The Crescent Moon Rises.

Haibei Tibetan autonomous prefecture is located on the north side of Qinghai Lake and is home to Wang's masterpiece, In a Far Away Fairy Land.
