The Red Detachment of Women, top of the permanent repertoire of the National Ballet of China, is considered as one of the most successful ballets produced in China, since its debut in 1964.

Founded on Dec 31, 1959, the National Ballet of China is China's only national ballet company. Its dancers and musicians are all graduates from professional dance academies and music conservatories across China.

The Red Detachment of Women is a full-length Chinese ballet depicting a peasant woman's journey into the People's Liberation Army (PLA), combining Western dance style with Chinese cultural elements.

The show in Wuxi is part of the series celebrations as the year 2019 marks the 60 anniversary of the establishment of the National Ballet of China.
