A piano trio given by graduates of the Juilliard School was held in the opera hall of Wuxi Grand Theatre on June 6, showcasing the charm of classical music to Wuxi audience.
Founded in 1905, the Juilliard School is a world leader in performing arts education and has trained some of the world's best artists, including Van Cliburn, Renee Fleming and Yo-Yo Ma.
The piano trio, named Aletheia set up in 2013, is formed by Francesca dePasquale, the violinist, Juliette Herlin, the cellist, and Fei-Fei Dong, the pianist. Since its establishment, the trio has performed in several prestigious musical halls including the Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
Wuxi was the first city in Aletheia’s China tour in 2019, said Fei-Fei Dong. The piano trio will also stage performances in other cities of China such as Fujian’s Fuzhou and Zhejiang’s Zhoushan and Lishui.
Masterpieces such as Mozart: Trio in G major, K. 496 and Shostakovich: Trio No 2 in E minor, Op.67 were staged during the concert, wining thunderous applauses from the audience.
Mendelssohn Trio in D minor, Op. 11, a rarely played work, was also staged. “We are very happy to bring you this masterpiece”, said Dong.
Mendelssohn Trio in D minor, Op. 11, composed by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, the renowned musician Felix Mendelssohn's older sister, was published after her death.
