What:
Cats, one of the brightest diamonds among the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber, was first staged in the West End in London, and a year later it stepped over the ocean and played on Broadway, in 1982.
One of the songs, Memory, became a hit and brightly known far beyond the borders of musicals world. Over time, this song has become a standard not only for this musical, but also marked the bar for all musicals.
For now, Cats has received seven Tonies, three Drama Desks and one Grammy. It is the second longest-running Broadway musical, only surpassed by Lloyd Webber's own The Phantom of the Opera, and fourth longest-running West End musical.
In 2018, Cats gave a total of 157 performances within six months in China, bringing the charm of this prestigious play to over 300,000 audiences in China. This year, another tour has opened to 300 cities in 30 countries including Wuxi.
